3/31/11 Lot of snow on the way!

I WILL be going skiing tomorrow.  Ron is driving up tonight.  Wish you could all be here for what will probably be the final dump of the season.

Libya:
"To many Libyan people, the biggest question mark about Gadhafi does not involve his repressive and dictatorial rule, delusional statements or brazen lies. Behind closed doors, for years, they've wondered if he is Jewish. Last week the issue came out in the open, as NBC'sRichard Engel reported from Libya that one in five rebels was fighting Gadhafi because he believes the leader is Jewish."

Oh boy.   I'm just really positive now that there aren't any Al Qaeda in the mix.  And I have a bridge to sell you.

3/29/11

A  couple of late-season snow producers will be on the weather map this week alone, with the greatest threat being in interior parts of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast from Thursday night through Friday. A storm moving northward through this region has the potential to produce heavy, wet snow from West Virginia northward into parts of New York state and interior New England.

Hummmm

NYTimes:
For months, officials say, the house was home to “maternity tourists,” in this case, women from China who had paid tens of thousands of dollars to deliver their babies in the United States, making the infants automatic American citizens.

That's nice.

3/28/11

Nice sunny day again today.  The slopes were pretty worn out but the temps will rise tomorrow.  I'll keep you posted.

Libya:
According to The Daily Telegraph in London, rebel front-line forces include what one rebel commander calls the “patriots and good Muslims” who fought American forces in Iraq.

That's nice.

3/27/11 Bluebird day but cold

Same snow different day.  What I can say is that the sun was nice and bright.  Without it life would have been bitter on the mountain today.  I had some good tree skiing though.  It's kind of remarkable that the trees are better then the groomers.  I finally skied by Juilio when it was actually open.  I jumped right in.  I wish I could do that every day.

It was very fun skiing with my sis.  I'll give today () () () just because my sister was here and I got to go down Julio.

3/25/11 Another no ski day...what's happening!

G.E. Pays No Taxes General Electric was one of the companies that received a huge Fed bailout.  Now it turns out that the nation's largest corporation didn't pay a penny in U.S. taxes last year.  In fact, G.E. claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion. It posted worldwide profits in 2010 of $14.2 billion including $5.1 billion from its operations in the United States. G.E. is not alone. Discussing The New York Times article on his weekly nationwide radio show, Sanders told Thom Hartmann that Bank of America paid no taxes on $4 billion in income.  Exxon, for all its profits, got a rebate.  Etc., etc. To listen to the opening segment of Friday's interview with m Hartmann, click here. To read the article in The New York Times, click here.

3/24/11 It was Ok

I will give today () () snowballs.  It was nothing special but it wasn't completely bad either.  I should have alpine'd.  I will hang up my tele's until or if we get anymore snow or the weather turns much warmer.  This snow is good for fast, cruising GS.  The trees were actually good and Julio was even open but I can't go down that on tele's.   Every time we go to ski Julio it's closed and now I ski past on tele's and it's open.  Go figure.  Tomorrow we will go down Julio.

Warmth really won't hit for another week.  We are in some sort of a cold spell.  There is still a really solid base and I think spring skiing will last thru April.

until then,
Sarah

3/22/11 No Ski Day - Too busy

Despite Protests, NRC Renews License for Vermont Nuclear Plant

Despite opposition by key state officials and worldwide fears over safety risks in the wake of Japan's nuclear crisis, the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission has granted a new 20-year operating license for the Vermont Yankee atomic power plant.

"It is outrageous that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has rubber stamped this old and leaking nuclear reactor for another 20 years of operation even as reactors of the same design have failed and are emitting dangerous levels of radiation in Japan," Greenpeace nuclear policy analyst Jim Riccio said, according to the Brattleboro Reformer.

3/21/11 Stormy Semi Powder Day

We waited until 2:00 to go out because we had to work and the snow didn't start until about 11:30.  I wanted some accumulation before we went up there.  That worn out ice needed to be covered up.  I think we timed it just right.  We skied on about 4 inches of new powder which was just barely enough to cover up the ice on the groomers.  You could NOT go off of the groomers though.  I mean no way no how.  I tried it.  I felt like I was on broken up ice mounds covered with frosting.  It was very strange and extremely dangerous.  The groomers were really, surprisingly, good.  The visibility was a little tough and the wind was a little on the fierce side but other than that it was a good 8 runs.  I'll give it () () () snowballs today.   More snow is suppose to come on Thursday.

Comment for the day:

Lindsay Lohan stay out of the bars.  You are beginning to embarrass even the homeless alcoholics with you antics.

3/20/11 Not Missing Much

I'm glad we didn't have to be responsible for any guests this weekend because they wouldn't have been happy with the conditions.  The beautiful snow during the week was missing because the temps dropped dramatically at night and never warmed up enough during the day.  It doesn't look like we will get warm temps  all week which means we need snow because it's worn out ice again.  It's in the forecast but how much I don't know.   It was a () day.

So let's move on to a more important topic.  I was just reminded (by reading the attached quote) that the following church receives tax exempt status.  I think that makes sense though.  It's not far off from any other religion.  So why pick and choose.  Just let everyone have a free ride.  It's not like we need the money:

"So these well-known stars that you know, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, are all high-level Scientologists. They have been through that level. They have all been told that Earth, 75 million years ago, was populated by these alien beings sent by the overlord Xenu, who blew them all up and their disembodied souls are inhabiting human bodies. This is the core of what Scientology is. If you have a problem in your life, it's because these disembodied alien creatures are attaching themselves to you and preventing you from doing better. So Scientology is the one process, they believe, by which you can remove these alien souls. They're called body thetans and you can audit them away. It's strange enough that Tom Cruise and John Travolta belong to this strange organization, but it's even stranger to realize that's what they believe. These stars go through that same kind of training, accept it and now try to convince the rest of us that it makes sense when actually it doesn't at all."

3/18/11 Friday the 13th

Just wanted to get your attention.  We did another glorious 13 runs today.  It's Friday.  Get it?  I'm glad the wind was blowing as much as it was today because even with as little clothing that I had on it was hot!  I was hot (always:)).  It was close to 60 degrees but the snow was really, really wonderful.  I know, I know I keep saying that but this spring has a lot of base and even at 60 degrees there wasn't any slush or tricky situations I encountered while bombing down the mountain.  There weren't many people either out there so bombing down the mountain was a blast.  I went faster then I did yesterday which is almost beyond belief, (at least my belief).  It was another () () () () day.  Again, I can't add a + to it because of what is going on in the world out there.  See my comment below.

Why are we getting involved with Libya???????????????  Please you MF's don't get us involved.  Let the Arab states cover their own and let France defend their own oil use.  They didn't want anything to do with us when we went into Iraq now did they?  Sorry Bruno.  It's a great big no!  I don't want anything to do with it.  I'll walk to the friggen mountain with my skis strapped to my back.  My house is open to the commune.

until then,

Sarah

3/17/11 Happy St. Paddy to Coyle and Juliana

The skiing was very good once again.  We skied everything we could.  For some reason only the trees at Snowdon were open.  We wanted to close the day with a run down Julio but no luck.  I don't know what that is all about.  The run of the day was down Super Star on the left hand side.  It looked like slick ice but when you hit it was really nice and fast.  Fast enough to propel you through the softer, slower snow.  I was treating the bumps like gates. I was speeding down today.  It was so nice to alpine.  I liked going fast, fast, faster.   It was another ()()()() snowball day.  The only reason it's not a 4+ is because I couldn't stop thinking about what is going on in Japan.  See my comment below.  We are off to dinner tonight at Cloudland Farm.  A nice brisket and green beer is on the menu.

I think the courageous workers at the Fukushima Daichi Reactors should abandon ship and be replaced by executives from the Tepco Co. , GE, and the Japanese government officials who approved this mess.  They were the ones who received the benefits from building and maintaining the plants after all.  It's no different from the military: send in the troops to fight the battles of big business so that top executives can be truly enriched.  They need to be paid more for their super intellectual ability to take advantage of every society in the world.  Don't you think?

3/15/11 BEAUTIFUL DAY!

You couldn't ask for anything better today.  Ok, maybe you could ask for some more powder but not really because then you would just be plain selfish.  The sun was perfect on our faces.  I was very tired today but I couldn't miss out on the skiing so I forced myself and I even tele'd because I knew the alpine skiing would be really fast and I was too tired to go really fast and make a mistake.  I fell but I always fall on my tele's.  I'm going much slower though so it's ok, usually.  I always seem to go down on my left hip.  This time I almost went all the way down Outer Limits on my back but I was able to flip my skis around just in time to stop before I really got going fast.  I told Kim we had to go do something easier because I was just too tired and I didn't want to make a mistake so she suggested the trees.  I'm telling you if I'm ever found dead in a ditch somewhere go after the obvious!  Just kidding:)  I'm going to out live everyone and then someone is going to be sorry.  I don't know who but someone will be.   We ended up skiing almost the entire mountain and even climbed the Catwalk.  13 glorious runs.  I'm really tired now.  A good tired though.  () () () () snowball day!!

We are looking at a little questionable weather for tomorrow but every time they say that we end up getting 20 inches of snow.  Nothing's a done deal until it's done that's what I say and that's what the hole in my roof and the 10 feet of snow that is pressing on my kitchen window says too.

Until then,

Sarah

3/13/11 Beach Day

Heading back up to do some spring skiing. The beach and tennis were great though.  It would have been better if Juliana and I would have beat Kim and Juliana's mom but that's rare.  No one beats Kim.  She doesn't like that!  We had a great weekend with the girls.  Thanks girls.

3/3/11 Colddddddd

A bluebird day but a bit on the cold side.  I tele'd because there wasn't any tree skiing going to be happening today unless you wanted to hurt yourself.  We did a fast 10 runs (I mean fast) before we had to go into the Killington bar to get warm.  We just had to:).  Nice band playing and nice beer pouring.   I took a bad fall on the slippery bumps on Superstar right before that (not after the beer you dope!).  It was so bad in fact that Kim had to untangle my skis before I could get up.  Once those tele's take off on a piece of ice they are gone.  No controlling those suckers.  Just a little thumb, knee and hip injury.  No problemo.

Overall a () () () snowball day just because it was a bit chilly, the skiing was limited and I friggen fell but other than that it was a rocking day on the mountain.

until then,

3/2/11

We haven't been skiing in the last three days.  Maybe we will go out tomorrow.  The conditions haven't been great so I haven't been motivated.  We hiked Mt. Tom yesterday following a deer trail instead of the regular trail.  The snow was much deeper.  It was a better work out.  We are deciding what to do but I do know we are supposed to get snow today sometime.

until then,
